Misguided
You were told to show large balances, an “arranged” loan or someone else’s money, or given a copied statement of purpose.
Many recent refusals come from files that were rushed, incomplete or built on bad advice — not from students who could never qualify. We find what went wrong, tell you honestly whether and when to reapply, and rebuild the application properly.
Recent applicants refused by Immigration New Zealand, whoever prepared the first application.
You were told to show large balances, an “arranged” loan or someone else’s money, or given a copied statement of purpose.
English, course choice or study gap did not add up, or the course did not follow from your past study and work.
Source of funds, sponsor income or key documents were missing, unverifiable or unexplained.
You have a refusal letter but no clear explanation of the reasons or what to change.
You do not need inflated balances or the whole degree’s costs in the bank. You need the right amount, genuinely available, from a source INZ can confirm.
| Requirement | What INZ asks for |
|---|---|
| Tuition fees | Paid in full for 1 year or 1 programme, whichever is shorter. If you apply from outside New Zealand you can choose approval in principle and pay after INZ approves your application in principle. |
| Living costs | NZD 20,000 for each year of study (NZD 1,667 a month if your study is shorter than a year). Tuition is in addition to this. |
| Outward travel | A paid ticket out of New Zealand, or enough extra money to buy one. |
| Visa length | Your visa is normally issued for the period of study you have paid for. For later years of a longer programme you apply for a further visa and show funds for that period then — so plan now how your family will pay, because INZ can ask. |
| Education loans | Accepted only as a sanction letter and disbursal letter from a nationalised or multinational bank, secured against fixed assets that belong to you, stating the security, moratorium, interest and repayments. You may be asked how you will repay it. |
| Large or recent deposits | Deposits over NZD 2,000, many smaller deposits, or a recently opened account must be explained with evidence of where the money came from. |
| Not accepted | Screenshots of bank transfers and receipts from education agents are not accepted as proof of tuition paid. |

Giving Immigration New Zealand false or misleading information can lead to refusal and can affect future applications. If your refusal involves a finding of false or misleading information, character, or any visa other than a student visa, your case is handled by a licensed immigration adviser.
